Come the fall semester, 500 students will fill up the new Legacy Hall at Midwestern State University.

“My favorite part is just seeing it (all) happen,” student Geordan Martinez said.

Kristi Shulte, Director of Residence Life of Housing said the residence hall will be opening on August 20th as they welcome the freshman class.

“Primarily this facility is intended to house first and second-year students but there are a couple of upperclassman living here who have wanted to take the opportunity to stay in the new facility,” Shulte said.

There will be a mix of single and double room floor plans and all rooms will come with a bed, desk and privacy wall. Shulte said the building is close to capacity of incoming residents.

“We continue to take applications as those come in but we are nearly filled with this building,” Shulte said.

Board of Regents members toured the residence hall Thursday morning and many were excited about the continued growth throughout campus.

“I think it just shows energy the university has to grow and to want to get bigger and draw people in from further areas and hopefully, they’ll see that the administration is committed to improving campus and make it better for the students,” Associate VP of Facilities Services Kyle Owen said.

While there is still work to be done students are excited for the university and the city of Wichita Falls.

“Obviously, if there’s more students here that mean there’s more money being brought to the town,” Martinez said.
